Dayan Linares, the owner of Urania, gives us a vivid history of her company.
“My name is Dayan Linares. I am 31 years old and I am from the city of Bogotá. Not long ago, I was dedicated to something completely different from the craftsmanship, but given life’s various paths and a period of time without employment, I started to work with my hands and create beautiful handcrafted items. Today, I feel very proud to be able to say that I am part of the artisans of Bogotá.
Urania, my brand, is an enterprise dedicated to the creation of trapillo woven products such as handbags. The weaving technique used is traditional crochet The material with which each of the pieces is made is called trapillo, it is cotton fabric which large fabric manufactures discard. The use of trapillo assists in the protection of the environment by reusing these materials which can take up to a year to degrade, minimizing the amount of waste in the environment.
Each of our handmade pieces is made with love, unique design, knowledge, and dedication which takes days of preparation and a tireless effort to create.
Urania recognizes that there are many people who want more handmade objects, unique pieces that are not mass produced, pieces made by a person who has dedicated all their time, love and dedication.”
